Remembering John Adams

Members of the Castlegar Nordic Ski Club are saddened to hear of the recent passing of John Adams, a past Secretary on the club Executive and a long time club member.  We extend our deepest sympathy to all of John’s extended family.  The following is a poem and obituary remembering John, written by Michell McDicken.

John Adams
November 19,1939 – April 15, 2026

A hush fell over the trees today,
As Forester John has passed away.

This Summerland boy had a farm as his home
Where he had chores and adventures and acres to roam.

His passion for nature ran deep and proved strong.
And became his profession as time went along.

Years in Vancouver to attend UBC.
Earned John his degree in the department of forestry.

It was there he met Joyce, who would soon be his wife,
Followed by Leslie and Rob and a family life.

Time in the city and some on the plains,
Sent John to the halls of academia again.

This time to Berkeley for a Masters degree,
Then a job opportunity in beautiful B.C.

Selkirk College – emerged a new little campus out west
Needed a forestry program – John got the request.

For twenty-two years he taught those young folks.
Imparting his knowledge, his wit and his jokes.

Many parties were hosted by John and his spouse.
As they were first to own their own house.

In March 2006 sadly, Joyce passed away,
Leaving John on his own in his retirement days.

But love wasn’t done with John just quite yet.
An old friendship rekindled when they met.

They both love to travel and prepare a great meal.
(Well John loved to eat! That part was real!)

Their golden years flourished with love, and with laughter,
A second opportunity at “happily ever after.”

But all great adventures must come to a close.
And Alzheimer’s proved the strongest of foes.

So the life of this teacher, husband, father and friend,
Grandpa, Great-grandpa, has come to an end.

But John always said, “Live your life to the fullest.”
And, “Pay attention to loved ones and give them your best.”

Son- Rob Adams & wife Jennifer Adams
Plus a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren
